The property market in the Western Algarve remains very strong, with a growing number of properties for sale and an increase in people wanting to migrate to the area. One of its pearls, Carvoeiro, once a lovely fishing village, still bears traces of the original fishermen’s cottages cut into the slopes above the stunning cliff formations.
Just ten minutes’ drive away is another little gem at Ferragudo, a traditional village clutched around its picturesque fishing harbour and now with a new yacht marina.
The market situation over recent years has been driven to some degree by UK media coverage giving the overall impression that property for sale is cheaper in the Western Algarve.
However, it would be more accurate to say that this is mainly applicable to older resale properties in the less desirable areas. The current trend is towards construction of a much higher quality - particularly in the case of developments. Several serious new developers are offering luxury villas, townhouses and apartments in either seaside or golf resort locations.
Because general price levels in the west are still somewhat below their equivalents in the Algarve’s central region, there are still good deals to be found - but not for long.
