Property in Algarve Portugal - A Good Place to Invest

The past 18 months has seen intense speculation over the health of the European property market. Reference has been made to an over supply and development of Spain, leading to the corresponding fall in Spanish property values. Other European coutries have also fallen foul of this; a product of the previous boom years in which developers were allowed to go all out and build, build, build.
Whilst it must be said, that Portugal has not completely escaped the recent European property pricing corrections, it has not been quite as badly affected by them. This is due, in no small part, to the controlling role that the Portuguese Government has played in monitoring and restricting development in this part of the world.
While other European nations were riding the crest of the wave, developing and over developing their coastal areas, the Portguese Government took a longerterm and altogether more conservative approach. Knowing that they sat naturally on a jewel in the crown of the Atlantic coast, they were at pains to ensure the region was not spoiled through over development.
The limitations imposed on developers by the Portuguese Governent, encouraging careful and responsible building, have lead to the area maintaining its natural beauty, character and aesthetic. This has ensured that property values in the area have remained strong despite the fluctuating European market.
With supply and demand now stabalising in Portugal as well as in the UK, and with confidence returning to the global economy, we are seeing a steady increase in prices achieved and a growth in demand throughout the Algarve region.
Now is the time then, for the medium to longterm investor, to buy property in the Algarve as both a lifestyle and investment choice. Buyers can rest safe in the knowledge that under the ever watchful eye of the Portuguese Government, their investment will not be down valued through the ravages of over development.
Easily reached via regular flights from most of Europe, the Algarve boasts some of the finest scenery and beaches, to be found anywhere on the continent. With virtual year round sunshine, this area is one of the most popular holiday destinations in Europe and a great place to return to again and again with the purchase of a holiday home. It is little wonder then that property values here, are on the rise.
