| Palácio do Visconde de Estoi - 18th c. palace in baroque gardens. |
The 18th century palace of Estói combines neo-baroque and rococo styles. Set in its own geometrically landscaped gardens, this 28-room mansion lies not far from the centre of Estói village. The gardens, set out in Baroque style, contain small lakes, flights of steps and a good many statues. |
Near the entrance to the palace, there is a temple containing the statue of The Three Graces, a faithful copy of the original work sculpted by Italian artist, Antonio Canova (1757-1822). |
The exterior of the palace displays lavish 19th century azulejos (traditional blue and white tile work) sporting intricate floral decorations and depicting scenes from classical mythology. |
Inside there is a wealth of antique furniture, fine plaster work, a chapel, two tea-rooms and much more beside. |
