Loulé is less touristy than other Central Algarve locations, and is home to mostly Portuguese and foreign residents. It is an ideal location to buy good value villas and apartments, in an authentically Algarve town with cobbled streets and the ancient remains of a castle. Fewer holidaymakers stay in Loulé, compared to the popular beachside locations. Instead visitors tend to come for the day to experience the daily market, visit local workshops selling wrought iron, cane furniture, basketry and embroidered goods and dine in one of Loulé’s excellent restaurants. |

In February, the town holds an annual carnival – which can be quite a messy affair! It is advisable to wear old clothes when visiting. |

Nearby to Loulé are the towns of Sta. Barbara, São Bras, Estoi, Querença, Salir and Boliqueime. The capitol Faro is only 16km north west of the town, easily accessible via good roads. |
