Why the Algarve region in particular?

There are many reasons why investing in property in the Algarve makes sense. Firstly, it offers 12 month rental opportunities. The Algarve is home to many top class golf courses, which are especially visited in the winter months. You can’t say this about many places! So if you choose a property near to both golf courses and the sea – and there are many such places – you could get year-round rental instead of only the summer. Secondly, the Algarve is small compared to other parts of Europe, so demand will always be higher than supply. This keeps prices high and stable. Another reason why the Algarve is popular is that it sits in a quiet corner of Europe – politically stable, and free of terrorism and natural catastrophes. The Algarve property market had its peak around 2002-03, and then dipped slightly in 2004-05, principally due to changes in tax laws and off-shore ownership. In 2006, though, the market has started to increase again, making now an excellent time to buy.
